Community relations managers represent businesses and organizations to the communities they serve, both directly and through media relations. They are expected to maintain their employers’ reputation while increasing trust and patronage. To accomplish this, community relations managers undertake tasks such as establishing partnerships with other organizations in the community, participating in interviews with and issuing statements to the media, and engaging in customer service, as well as coordinating and attending fundraisers and various public and private events. Community relations managers must be able to interact with individuals at all levels of society such as ordinary citizens, small business owners, local politicians, and executives of major corporations. Work hours for community relations managers vary, as events often fall outside regular business hours. While a significant part of the work of community relations managers takes place in an office environments, attending community events is often a part of the job.
