Job Description for Leasing Consultant

Leasing consultants are responsible for meeting with tenants who wish to lease from their company, giving them relevant details about properties and ensuring they understand any contracts that they would need to sign (such as a leasing agreement). Leasing consultants also collect rent and fees, and they may have to issue warnings to tenants for issues such as noise violations, late rent, or failure to maintain property. Although leasing consultants generally do not perform maintenance or renovations themselves, they do oversee and plan these projects, ensuring they are completed in a timely and cost-efficient manner. A leasing consultant also ensures the central office runs smoothly; in this, they must keep excellent records of all payments, fees, and contracts. Generally, a leasing consultant works in the real estate industry in an office setting, although they often have to work in the field to find and inspect prospective properties, as well as showing the property to potential tenants.

Leasing consultants generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, although some employers may prefer a postsecondary degree in areas such as real estate or administration. Most training for this role occurs on the job. Leasing consultants must be able to communicate effectively verbally and through writing.
