Job Description for Certified/Registered Dental Assistant (CDA/RDA)

A certified/registered dental assistant (CDA/RDA) performs a wide variety of duties in a dental office. They help the dentist while they provide care to patients, as well as perform preparatory services such as preparing trays and mixing any needed materials. In addition, CDAS/RDAS are in charge of cleaning the area and disposing of used items after patient care is completed. Other tasks performed by the CDA/RDA include helping keep their office clean and hygienic, tracking the availability of supplies, and reordering supplies when they are running low. When X-rays are necessary, the CDA/RDA takes and processes them. CDAs/RDAs are also expected to obtain patient history records and update these records as needed, as well as help maintain machines and perform troubleshooting when problems with machines occur. In smaller practices, the CDA/RDA is often in charge of arranging patient appointments and performing billing as well.
