Job Description for Commercial Director

Commercial directors are in charge of directing commercial endeavors for their organization. They are responsible for managing advertising efforts and interacting with staff and external individuals to increase brand loyalty and awareness. Commercial directors must identify product or services deficiencies and suggest changes. They must oversee these changes and help create methods to track progress. Generally, these directors lead a group of marketing, advertising, and sales professionals to reach company goals; this may require coaching, disciplining, and providing feedback to team members as necessary.


Commercial Director Tasks

  • Plan and set the marketing and business development direction and strategy.
  • Act as subject matter expert to senior leadership on issues relating to sales and business development.
  • Develop objectives, measurements and policies for the sales and business development departments.
  • Oversee staff operations, business planning, budget development and expenditures toward achievement of objectives.
  • Evaluate the financial aspects of product development, such as budgets, expenditures, research and development appropriations, and return-on-investment and profit-loss projections.
