Job Description for Electronic Repair Technician Manager
The typical duties of an electronic repair technician require a knowledge of electronic devices and their components/wiring, and of the tools required for the necessary repair and upkeep of such devices. These duties also require the ability to recognize problems within devices which require repair and/or replacement.Read More...
Electronic repair technicians must also have a working knowledge of the blueprints, manuals, and diagrams that are often needed in the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of electronic devices. An ability to communicate with customers, explain the specific issues and repairs, and instruct them in the proper use and handling of their devices is also an important part of the position.
Some basic physical requirements for electronic repair technicians include the ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds and to stand for fairly long periods of time. Also, the ability to work independently and [occasionally] under pressure and/or within deadlines is necessary for some positions.
Certification for electronic repair technicians can be acquired through trade and vocational schools, typically in 18-month programs which include courses in English, math, and computer science, basic electronics, manufacturing, business practices, and instruction on AC/DC circuits. While not all employers require certification, it can be assumed that certifications, in addition to prior working experience, lead to better career-advancement opportunities and benefit packages.
