Front end supervisors usually oversee cashiers, baggers, and other employees within the checkout area of a store to ensure that excellent customer service is provided to customers. Customers should always be greeted, especially when entering the store, and front end supervisors may be responsible for resolving customers' questions and concerns. They should offer assistance whenever possible in the checkout area, and cashiering duties may occasionally be necessary. It's important to make sure that all safety precautions are observed at all times, and they may also prepare performance evaluations of employees, schedule their shifts, and assign duties. The supervisor may also answer phone calls to the store and must ensure that cashiers are operating the cash registers accurately and efficiently and performing age-verification when necessary. They may also be responsible for general housekeeping duties in the checkout area, bathroom, common areas, and employee break room, as well as preparing daily deposits and end-of-day paperwork.
Multitasking skills and the ability to work well under pressure are important in this position, and a high school diploma and years of relevant work experience are generally required. Leadership experience in a professional setting may also be necessary.
