The president of a non-profit organization provides strategic vision and leadership consistent with the organization’s mission statement. The president works collaboratively with the founder and the board to ensure that the organization's fiscal operations and fundraising/marketing strategies are effectively implemented across all segments of the organization. A president of a non-profit organization oversees its financial status, including developing short-term and long-term financial plans, monitoring budgets, and ensuring that sound financial controls are in place. They must set financial priorities accurately to ensure that staff members and the needs of the program are equally supported while upholding the values of the organization. These presidents also work with major donors, foundations, government agencies, and corporations to formulate and execute comprehensive marketing, branding, and development strategies.
Those in this position are responsible for providing leadership and direction to all executives and ensuring the continued development and management of a professional and efficient organization. They are also responsible for effective decision-making processes which help the organization achieve its long- and short-term goals and objectives, as well as reporting and maintaining open communication regarding the measurement of financial, programmatic, and impact performance against stated milestones and goals.
Most presidents of non-profit organizations have an advanced college degree and at least seven to ten years of experience in a managerial position in a corporate and/or non-profit enterprise.

- Preside over meetings of the board, plan the agenda, conduct business, and facilitate the decision-making process.
- Work together with the executive director to establish and uphold the organization's vision and objectives.
- Represent the organization in all public relations activities, establishing relationships with donors, the community, the media, and other organizations.
