Although individuals in this position report to management, the ability to work independently is also needed. In some large firms or websites, the SEM specialist may be required to working with a team of other marketing specialists.
Work is performed in an indoor environment, typically an office setting with minimal hazards or physical requirements. However, teleconferencing or travel to remote offices may also be necessary depending on the company and position. These professionals typically work during regular business operating hours, but flexibility for overtime or large projects is sometimes also necessary.
Educational and experience requirements vary widely depending on the employer and position available. These positions may be entry-level openings or they may require extensive experience in similar positions. A bachelor’s degree and two to four years of experience in a related field are common requirements. Additionally, the position requires detailed knowledge of search engine optimization techniques, and experience with systems such as Google AdWords, SEO Management suites, and other software is highly preferred.
