Job Description for Ship Mate

A ship mate works aboard large boats or ships. Most ship mates work on deep-water, ocean-going vessels as part of larger crews, but they can also be part of smaller, freshwater ships as well. Ship mates are assigned various levels of report duties. A first mate is usually second to the captain, and so on. These workers help to maintain and safely and efficiently operate the ship at all points of its journey.
