Most of the time a strategic marketing planning manager works on ensuring that the business development practice(s) of the company are aligned with its strategic efforts. Strategic planning managers' daily work includes market analysis, market growth management and corporate sales management. This position requires problem solving abilities, highly developed people skills and cross-functional leadership abilities. Strategic planning managers should possess over five years of experience, a bachelor's degree (preferably in engineering, finance or business) and strong knowledge of the industry. Strategic planning managers provide strategic input to senior management to aid in their decision making. Additionally, quantitative analysis and synthesis are required on a daily basis to help facilitate interdepartmental communication. Preparation of business plans, reports, presentations and maintenance of performance measures is also expected.
