Graduates of the UTEP head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; the health care industry, the software development industry, and public K-12 education are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The most popular career sector among alumni is the manufacturing industry. Starting salaries of approximately $60K are common among UTEP grads.


The biggest paychecks among UTEP alumni are earned by Software Engineers — these former students make about $79K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Operations Managers ($72K) and Mechanical Engineers (around $56K). Sitting at the bottom of the pay scale are Administrative Assistants, making an average of $30K.


Though El Paso offers the least in terms of financial rewards (median pay is the lowest at $53K), just over two-fifths of UTEP students continue living here after college. On the opposite end of the pay scale is Houston, a top-paying city for UTEP grads looking to earn a larger-than-average sum (this city has a median pay of $82K). Neighboring Dallas is another common pick among UTEP grads, along with San Antonio.

Degree Major

UTEP students with a Master of Science (MS), Geology can expect to make the most money ($236K per year) compared to their fellow graduates. Those holding a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), Marketing & Management are less fortunate in terms of earnings, bringing in around $32K per year.


Microsoft Office is a common skill among UTEP alumni — close to one-eighth of grads mention using it at work. Former Miners with Operations Management experience garner salaries that are 39 percent more than other grads' salaries. Demonstrated ability in Project Management, Microsoft Excel, and Customer Service rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about two-fifths of alumni) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one-third of alumni get sick time. The greater part of former students plan for retirement by taking advantage of a company-sponsored 401(k) program. For this school, the greater part of graduates are the recipients of health benefits, and a majority of former students pick up dental plans, too. The University of Texas at El Paso graduates also take advantage of life insurance, a company-subsidized cell phone, a casual working environment, and tuition reimbursement.
