Job Description for Commercial Artist

A commercial artist is a graphic design professional who works to create drawings, lettering, and backgrounds for advertising stills or overlays for animation. Commercial artists typically work as part of dedicated graphic design companies, but many private businesses with large marketing departments also have creative teams with commercial artists. The artist generally works from written concept descriptions, which may come directly from the client, from ad copy writers or from members of the branding team. They create mock-ups and eventually final renderings to be used in a campaign.
