A genealogist is sought after by organizations working with ancestry and lineage. The genealogist should have at least a bachelor's degree in a discipline such as anthropology or history. Most organizations are looking for applicants that have years of experience. The genealogist should be proficient in Microsoft Office, as well online research. The ability to speak a foreign language is a trait that many companies are looking for as well. There can be a minor amount of travel involved, but it is not a major component of the genealogist's job.
