While this position requires knowledge of exercise equipment, the actual tools for working are generally office supplies such as a computer, telephone, pen and paper, and other typical office supplies. Being a general manager of a fitness club usually requires a bachelor's degree in business management, but some obtain the job with a bachelor's degree in health or fitness. Experience in management and fitness-related jobs is also usually required.
