Job Description for International Logistics Coordinator

International logistics coordinators are responsible for coordinating and tracking worldwide shipments from their starting points to final destinations in the most efficient and cost-effective ways possible. These coordinators must always stay up-to-date with developments in their field and keep track of the various prices and route-services of other shipping companies, and strong math skills and extensive knowledge of company policies related to shipping and import/export rules are important for this position.

Those in this position also prepare shipping documents, such as customs forms and certifications for imports/exports, and perform other administrative duties which may be required prior to shipping goods. Planning is important in order to maximize the items which can be sent in one shipment and the speed in which items reach their destination. They may also coordinate storage and packaging of goods prior to embarkation.

Logistics coordinators are generally employed by companies which either conduct shipments on a regular basis or work with companies that do. Strong customer services skills are important, as these coordinators often work with a wide array of people from all over the world. A bachelor's degree and at least a few years of relevant experience may be minimum requirements for this position.
International Logistics Coordinator Tasks
  • Document and process outgoing and incoming shipments, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and condition.
  • Calculate weights and sizes to optimize shipments and packing.
  • Track timeliness and accounts for vendors, suppliers, and carriers to evaluate their service.
  • Prepare rate quotes for standard, rush, and special deliveries.
  • Create international paperwork and enforce mailing and customs standards and regulations.
