Pastor, Ministry Salary

A little over a half of Ministry Pastors in the United States are seasoned employees who have more than 10 years of experience in the field. Pay ranges from $25K to $66K per year, and the average comes out to $44K per year. Although more than half have medical coverage and more than two-fifths have dental coverage, just under one in three claim no health benefits at all. For the most part, Ministry Pastors enjoy their work and report high levels of job satisfaction. Most Ministry Pastors survey respondents are men (70 percent). Job Description for Pastor, Ministry

Ministry pastors tend to the needs of their congregations. Pastors must enthusiastically believe in their denominations and the mission and vision of their churches in order to lead sermons, and in-depth knowledge of the Bible is necessary in order to construct meaningful sermons and communicate the Bible's teachings. As such, strong public speaking skills and creativity are also important in order to succeed. Pastors may also lead youth group activities, such as Bible study.


Pastor, Ministry Tasks

  • Promote the Church and its mission through spiritual leadership and as-needed consultation.
  • Conduct weddings, funerals, and other services.
  • Conduct worship ceremonies and give sermons.
  • Teach through precept and by example.
