Pastor, Ministry Salary

A little over a half of Ministry Pastors in the United States have been in the field for more than 10 years. Pay can fall anywhere from $24K to $66K per year, but median earnings come to around $45K per year. Job satisfaction is reported as high by the vast majority of workers. While one-third report receiving no health benefits, the larger part do receive medical coverage, and more than two-fifths have dental, as well. Most Ministry Pastors survey respondents are men (72 percent). The numbers in this rundown were provided by PayScale's salary survey participants.

Ministry Pastors with more experience do not necessarily bring home bigger paychecks. In fact, experience in this field tends to impact compensation minimally. Someone who has worked for fewer than five years earns around $39K on average. Individuals with five to 10 years of experience don't get much more, though; the average income in this group is $43K. Ministry Pastors see a median salary of $47K after reaching one to two decades on the job. Ultimately, more time spent in the workforce does seem to translate to bigger paychecks; seasoned veterans with more than 20 years of experience report a median income of $54K.
