The inside sales assistant helps sales managers and representatives fulfill the primary functions of their jobs. The sales assistant aids in finding potential clients, screening new clients, and presenting information to clients; the often often act as a point of contact for clients and provide post-deal support.
The sales assistant might help find new clients in a variety of ways. They may network to provide new opportunities for the business; however, the sales assistant more often schedule meetings between prospective clients and sales representatives. The sales assistant helps screen clients by performing administrative tasks such as gathering information to be later used in reports. After gathering information, the assistant helps sales representatives analyze the data, create a report, and prepare the documentation, charts, and other tools necessary to effectively convey the message of the report. The assistant then schedules meetings with the client to present the report and performs any secretarial tasks necessary to ensure a smooth presentation. After the presentation, the assistant acts as a point of contact to answer some of the questions the client may have and to appropriately direct the client's questions to other members of the sales team.
Many sales assistants work part-time and flexible schedules. The educational requirements for the position vary, but often times a bachelor's degree in a business discipline is preferred. Sales assistants rarely have to travel. They must have basic computer software and communication skills.
