Support Engineer, Information Technology (IT) Reviews

What is it like working as a Support Engineer, Information Technology (IT)?

Support Engineer, Information Technology (IT) in Chicago:
Pros: What I like most about my job is working with and getting to help people. I also love being challenged in the realm of IT. It gives me a chance to continue strengthening my knowledge in IT. I also like the energy of my coworkers.
Cons: What I like least about my job is the lack of direction. Sometimes I feel as though my strengths are underestimated and my weaknesses are overestimated because of the level of experience I have is less than the seasoned individuals around me. It can be very discouraging at times. What I also do not like is that fact that there is no organization. I expected to be shown the proprietary systems that I needed to learn so that I can better troubleshoot them, but it was like pulling teeth. Also the turnover in my department is very high. Four people have left between October and January. I just would like to be trusted with more and to get the administrative permissions, which I've been waiting for for about two months now, so that I can do more work and become a subject-matter expert. I also would like to be trusted enough to be offered a full time permanent position instead of always having to settle for a contract position.
