A human resources advisor is a member of a company’s human resources team who focuses primarily on personnel and staffing issues. In addition to handling the hiring and firing of employees, a human resources advisor acts as a consultant to both employees and managers regarding recruitment, compensation, employee relations, benefits, and training. For employees, a human resources advisor will often act as a mediator, managing conflict between employees or between employees and the organization; they also serve as a coach or advisor, educating employees about various policies. For management, a human resources advisor keeps the management team updated on performance and relations issues, reports trends in employee attitudes and behaviors, passes on policies and procedures to employees, and advises management on meeting staffing needs. A human resources advisor typically works a standard 40-hour work week in an office setting. As a member of a human resources team, they spend a great deal of time interacting with other personnel at their company, meeting with employees, updating and informing management, and meeting with other human resources team members to analyze and develop various policies and programs.
