ODU alumni find work in an assortment of industries including the manufacturing industry, public K-12 education, and the automotive manufacturing industry. A large chunk of former ODU students are employed in the education industry; in fact, this is the most popular job sector for this population. Those with an education from ODU earn an average of $56K.

Former ODU students with an interest in making money consider becoming Project Engineers, the highest-paying gig (earnings amount to around $83K on average) among this alumni group.

Many ODU alumni seem to stick around Norfolk after wrapping up their studies; nearly one-seventh of grads remain to find permanent work. It is no surprise that Washington, DC, which hands out the biggest paychecks (the average salary is $98K), is another of the most popular spots for former ODU students. ODU alumni in Chesapeake, Va. can often be found sliding in at the lower end of the pay scale, where median paychecks are the smallest at $47K. Close-by Virginia Beach, Va. and Richmond, Va. are also desirable cities among ODU alumni.

Degree Major

ODU students with a Doctorate (PhD) can expect to make the most money (approximately $125K on average per year) compared to their fellow graduates. A Bachelor of Science in Political Science (PolySci) commands less pay, and these degree-holders face median pay of about $26K.

Roughly a tenth of grads report using Project Management as part of their job, making it the most popular skill. Former Monarchs with Project Management abilities can expect to make 54 percent more than their former classmates ($87K). Demonstrated ability in Customer Service, Customer Relationship Management (CRM), and Microsoft Excel rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

A strong majority of grads report receiving paid vacation days, but just two-fifths of alumni are paid for sick leave. Dental insurance applies to a fair number of respondents, and most alumni report health coverage. A large number of alums report contributing to a 401(k). Additional benefits handed to Old Dominion University alumni include life insurance, tuition reimbursement, a company-subsidized cell phone, and a casual working environment.

Related Schools

Median pay for Temple University grads is $56K, making their salaries most similar to those of ODU grads. The University of Maryland-Baltimore County, West Virginia University, and Ohio University-Main Campus are also similar to ODU.
