Not paid enough
Get your annual salary in writing! I was told I would be tried for two months then I would get a raise. I have 3 years in the hotel industry. 1 year in management. certified in hotel management and I still make what I started out with, $22,000.00!!!
Balancing work and play
I'll keep it short and sweet. The hospitality industry expects a "whatever it takes" attitude from its managers. This can mean 60 work weeks, however, working smart and NOT hard is the mark of a good manager. That being said, it is also a transient business, with many opportunites to travel, so do that. What is the point of working if you don't enjoy real quality time with those you love and, of course, the all important, battery recharging, me time. Work hard, smart, and then....take time for yourself. Remember, no one will offer it, you must have your ducks in a row, tell your employer your taking time, and then plan a great trip. Take advantage of your benefits!
Don't Ask
If you don't ask, you won't get it. The worst thing anyone can tell you is no, and then you are no better or worse than when you started
i am going for an assitant front office manager …
...and I cant get them up from $38000 with one week vacation, even though I have been working with hotels for 5 years, three of which I have been a front office manager.
