What makes one complete - Administrative+/+Office+Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Alabama, United States.
Posted in Dream Job on 4/3/2007.

Although I am fairly new at this whole adult life, I must say that we, as a people, rush around for nothing. We are in a hurry to go to school, in a hurry to get out. In a hurry to find a job, in a hurry to retire. But the one question that I had to ask myself was: What makes me complete? Of course, the well-being of my family: mentally, spiritually, and physically. But, all of those must be joined and thought about carefully in order to truly answer what makes you whole. I personally say that having a career that allows me to be independent is very important to me. I want to be able to be involved in my children's lives without worrying that I will lose my job or inconveince someone else. I want stability and an atmosphere that I can share with women similar to me. Mothers and wives who love God and their families and want to prosper in life. I want to surround myself with people just like me and learn new things. I want friends in the work place. I want to be ble to share recepies, talk about what little "Johnny" or little "Susie" did that was just so cute. I want relationship. Some people want to be their own boss. Some want to sit back and just do what they are told. Some don't want families and wouldn't mind working long hours. Some people want to save lives. I think that is wonderful! But, what I think most is I want a doctor who LOVES his job and a cook who LOVES to make WONDERFUL meals to please me and my family. I want and accountant that breathes taxes so mine will be accurate. It is so important to love what you do and do what you love. In my book, that is the key to success and the key to being amazing at what you do. You have to have a heart for what you do everyday, all day!

GOD bless and I hope each of you finds your calling.

College Internship program - Assistant Estimator, Construction - (City withheld for privacy), Florida, United States.
Posted in Job Search on 4/2/2007.

I started looking for my first Construction related job by earning a credit for an internship program. The first internship I took was looking to hire interns and turn it into a full time position. They ended up liking me and I was offered a full-time position. If this were not the case it gave me a plethra of knowledge in the field which I didn't have before and could now use it to move into another intern position or strait into a different full-time job. The internship made me more valuable for a company and also made money while I was being educated.

For product management in software, it helps having your beginning in software development. This allows you to question new projects that come up.

Moving and relocation - Technical Sales/Service Representative, Telecommunications - (City withheld for privacy), Oregon, United States.
Posted in Moving/Relocation on 3/27/2007.

I think employers should offer funding for relocation and moving!

I want to move to the Oregon Coastal area. But it is hard to do all this when I'm a single person and I want to change my job and relocate to a more cool, beautiful area.

How To Learn From Being Fired - Front Desk Clerk - (City withheld for privacy), Texas, United States.
Posted in I Was Fired on 3/26/2007.

I was working for a corporation for the first time and for the first 8 months I worked for a manager who really didn't make a big deal out of corporate policy. Every now and then she would mention it but not obsessively. She quit not too long ago and the interim manager is straight out of the rule book. I was overwhelmed. I tried hard but I just couldn't get it fast enough. I was fired without a chance to make up for myself. That is so frustrating. If I ever become a manager, I will always talk to the employee before making a decision to fire them.

Prove your skill set and workload - Catering Executive - (City withheld for privacy), Ohio, United States.
Posted in Negotiating Higher Pay on 3/24/2007.

When I took the job I soon found out that I was earning significantly less than my internal peer group. After about 6 - 9 months of proving myself, I took a copy of the standard job description for managers in our department and agreed that it was very close to what the other managers in my division were doing.

I was also doing everything in the job description, but much much more. I edited the description to include my additional duties and presented both to my supervisor, explaining exactly how my role(s) were much more extensive and diversified than that of managers in other operations. After a short conversation, I had earned an 8% increase in salary on top of our standard 3% cost of living increase.
