Moving/Relocation
Moving and relocation
Technical Sales/Service Representative, Telecommunications - (City withheld for privacy), Oregon, United States
I think employers should offer funding for relocation and moving!

I want to move to the Oregon Coastal area. But it is hard to do all this when I'm a single person and I want to change my job and relocate to a more cool, beautiful area.

Same Company, Different Rules?
Retail Store Manager - (City withheld for privacy), Michigan, United States
Before negotiating an intercompany transfer, feel out peers of the new location for any drastic differences in how they do business. For instance, California Retailers are presently under extreme pressures to prove "Salary Test Qualifications". This carries excessive importance placed on employee breaks, lunches, clock times, payroll, etc. in order for Managers to qualify for their pay status. It affects the ability of a California retail managers to make sales quotas similar to their out of state counterparts, as they spend about 15% of their focus on giving California mandated breaks at specified times. Managers are not allowed to complete projects outside of California mandated hours, and find it difficult to acquire bonuses as a result, comparatively speaking, with other states identical positions.

The greener Grass is in your own Backyard
Manager Fine Jewelry - (City withheld for privacy), California, United States
Being a LA girl I thought it might be more lucrative to work in a lower cost of living state. I found the inland LA area getting very expensive as far as cost of living. I did get a reasonable pay increase with the move but the area was rural with not much to do. Also the company culture was hostile to non southerners. They seem to only trust people from here it's a who you know and stroke kind of hierarchy. Being educated and competent come in second unfortunately.

I am now in active job search trying to get back to the west coast (LA) this was a relocation decision based on pure economics. What I learned is there are cost opportunities tied to living in a denser metro area like LA or San Fran. Thankfully the company paid for my relocation but unless I can get a company to pay for my relocation again the return trip is on my dime approx $2500-3000 not cheap. Lesson, the grass is not greener if you have ties to an area expensive or not. Another concideration is my family base and true friends are there waiting for my return.

Relocating to a new state
Mental Health Counselor - (City withheld for privacy), Virginia, United States
I really do not have advice on this topic but I am seeking advice. I have worked in the mental health field in CA. for over thirteen years. I am orginally from WI. I relocated to CA. 15yrs. ago. I find myself at a lost because I am so burnt out on the economical strain of living in CA. You would think that CA. is the leading state in decent pay rates for mental health/social services but in fact, the job market is lagging and it doesn't appear that obtaining a Master's in Psychology has much effect on earning potiential. I am a single woman, my children are all grown and I really want to move on and have the life-style Iv worked so hard for. However, I have not reached my goal of earning possibilities. The pay is good if you work for the department of corrections but that is not what I prefer to do. I would appreciate any advice you have to offer.
