A media relations manager will have a variety of responsibilities, including: preparing press releases for the media; improving the public image of their organization; promoting the image in a responsible and coordinated manner; cultivating working relationships within the public; enhancing collaborative relationships with the press; managing news with the media; dispersing information to press and staff in a timely manner; optimizing communication to ensure accuracy of information; serving as a spokesperson to media; creating effective communication channels; enhancing the effectiveness of press; planning press events; assessing public relations concerns as they arise; composing company literature and articles for use within and outside the company; preparing for strategic crisis communications; and providing strategic media relations plans.
Media relations managers will generally lead a small team of personnel within their organization and must have extraordinary communication skills, as well as a high attention to detail and a friendly but assertive personality.
Media Relations Manager Tasks
- Manage social media and event planning, including special projects.
- Develop and implement strategies for increasing and targeting reach, awareness and impact.
- Respond to media inquiries and develop relationships with media outlets.
- Write and disseminate content about the organization and its activities.
