Medical Assistant Salaries

The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects a very positive outlook for medical assistants, with high employment growth expected over the next several years. This is great news for anyone considering a career as a medical assistant, or for those who simply want to get a foot in the door of an expanding health care industry. If you've already completed training and certification to become a medical assistant, you might be wondering what path to take in order to earn the best possible medical assistant salary. There is no question that demand for medical assistants will continue to increase along with many other jobs in health care. But all medical salaries are affected by a number of factors, one of which is location. Comparing median Medical Assistant Salaries by State, for example, shows that New York and California tend to offer higher salaries than Texas, Georgia, and other states.

If the salary of a medical assistant in New York or California sounds enticing, keep in mind that the bigger cities in these states - namely New York and San Francisco or Los Angeles - tend to have a very high cost of living. When researching salaries by location, it's a good idea to consider what your standard of living might be like in different areas. In other words, how far will the salary of a medical assistant go in different cities? Using the PayScale Cost of Living Calculator, we can research both Cost of Living and Medical Assistant Salary Data for New York, San Francisco and other cities across the United States.
