Yoga teachers vary the classes by students' experience and abilities, as well as the type of yoga taught. Some forms focus more heavily on the meditative aspects of the discipline, for example, and others are taught in high-heat, high-intensity environments with a focus on fitness. Yoga teachers may also perform one-on-one work, either contracted through a fitness center or directly with clients. They may perform house calls, assisting clients through the various yoga positions and disciplines at the pace of the individual student. These sessions allow the teacher to tailor individual sessions as needed to work on balance, flexibility, and low or high intensity rotations.
To work as a yoga teacher, a person must be physically fit and have demonstrated yoga skills and training, with many professional fitness centers requiring certification from industry organizations. Some community colleges and vocational schools provide this training and certification. Yoga teachers typically work regular business hours or evenings in a fitness center environment, although in the case of personal instruction, house calls may be involved.
