I Was Fired
Weird Termination
Nursing appears to be a very territorial profession and sadly, many compete for the favor of our doctors. If you ever have a preceptor who takes more smoke breaks than work assignments, ask to be re-assigned (forget about hurt feelings) your livelihood is on the line. When switching from one department to another; when asked, be carefull how you portray the old department.
Don't let them bully you!
I was offered what I thought was my dream job three weeks before my wedding. The recruiter pressured me into starting right before the wedding. I finally agreed because I thought I'd found my dream job and I was afraid of losing it if I didn't start when they wanted. I told both the recruiter and the company's HR manager that I thought it was a bad idea to start when I knew I had a wedding and a week-long honeymoon coming up - not to mention the additional stress that would come along with balancing wedding planning with a new job.Sure enough - I got sick two weeks in because of stress and my fiancee broke his ankle a week before the big day. Two days before the ceremony my new employer decided that "it wasn't working out" because I was "taking too much time off." Never mind the fact that I told my manager point-blank that my attendance would be sporadic until after the wedding. Never mind the fact that I offered - repeatedly - to work from home to compensate that. Never mind that he said he was agreeable to both things.Lesson learned: never, ever allow a recruiter to pressure you into a situation that you know isn't a good idea. If the company wants you that bad, they'll wait. If they don't, well, then there are better jobs out there.
life is not always fair
I was dismissed for reasons i can't discuss in detail due to my own ethical beliefs. however, the other people involved would gladly lay the blame at my own desk. i wrote a letter according to company policy, it was reviewed by a colleague and signed by my supervisor. this letter resulted in my being dismissed. i was working for a nonprofit and the letter involved a donation.
Why All Pro Services let me go
Easy to explain ... The owner of the company came up with a new form saying that once his employees leave the job, that he had a 2 year promise for not getting into any similar job. I had already signed this one when I was hired for a 1 year time frame ... I refused to sign it - so he fired me.
Puzzled
After 17 years, I was downsized from a very structured large company of 1800 persons and found a job at a much smaller and unstructured company of only 20. There was professional and cultural differences. Training, supervision and help resources weak. Unlike myself, many co-workers had little professional training. Regionally locals are suspicious of outsiders. One person with whom I interacted 10% of time displayed unfavorable body language. Although, I was careful not to be arrogant I was asked to leave. I feel abandoned and mislead.
have another job & quit first
don't trust what your employer says but rather what they do in terms of assignments & perks.
Test the waters
Test the waters first to make sure you fit in with the team that you will be part of.
Be sure you have something to work on
My "manager" (boss) gave me a finished project to work on, prohibited me from doing anything else, and then said I had low productivity - just in time for the layoffs. Fight like hell to get a task that can show visible productivity. Even though productivity is the result of the sum total of ALL factors, including the ones that the boss is responsible for - you're the one who will get all the blame. Managers like to assume that productivity is like height - it's solely an attribute of the individual, like height.
ANY position
Usually, when a person gets "Fired"- it is because they have been dissatisfied with the job for a WHILE!! Consequently ,we set up the circumstances for being Fired, somewhat Subconsciously-(or NOT). Assuming it is too late to change that fact: I have learned that the best way to be assured a good reference-OR,EVEN- get your old job BACK, is to contact your former supervisor, company owner, co- workers; which ever of these people that were involved in the process of your "Departure" AND/OR are in a position to potentially "save" your reputation..................... AND "Kiss Ass"!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway you can! (except literally). MORE IMPORTANTLY- BE HONEST/SINCERE about your "feelings"-WITHOUT being harsh or offensive: Identify/Admit YOUR mistakes: show (sincere) regret for the way you have (mis)handled the situation. "Confide in" them about what you have learned from the experience. Then, enlist a request for their help, state what you need from them/ and HOW they can Help,if willing. After All: Do you really have anything to LOSE at this point??? - it definately can't HURT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
terminated, without due process
I have a 33 year career history, with no prior negative apsects (always 4+ on evaluations, never written up) and in the course of the last year, I have been written up, had something called a "last chance agreement", which I was forced to sign while under duress, followed by numerous "investigations" which were unfounded by managments investigation, but never apologized for; suspended, and then terminated; without due process permitted (the suspension/termination: " was, is this you ?; you did this on this date ?; you're suspended pending further investigation: then terminated, without allowing me to give events from my side." My advice: Remember three things : -1.) you are a GREAT nurse. (lawyer/accountant/whatever). -2.) you are a GREAT person. -3.) you LOVE yourself. Repeat these three things 10 times upon rising each morning. Additionally, you must go forward. -find another job; whether permanent or per diem (to keep you financially afloat.)So you do not have to take a payout on your investments. -create a "plan that works best for you." And above all, I hope everyone who goes through what I did, has a supporting mate, and remembers this is not the end of the world. Look at your options, what can be done to resolve the issue amicably, so you may list the former employer, for future jobs. Good Luck to all !!
