Graduates of NU head into a range of vocations when it comes to work; the education industry, the health care industry, and the consulting industry are just a few professional areas popular among alumni. The financial services industry is the sector most highly represented among alumni. Starting salaries of $72K are the median among NU grads.

After graduation, women go on to earn an average of around $64K per year compared to men, who earn about $80K.

The biggest paychecks among NU alumni are earned by Software Engineers — these former students make a median salary of $85K per year. The next biggest paychecks go to Operations Managers ($75K) and Marketing Managers (approximately $71K). Financial Analysts wrap up the bottom of the pay scale, earning $55K.

Many NU alumni seem to stick around Boston after wrapping up their studies; roughly a third of grads remain to find permanent work. Cambridge, Mass. is also a common destination for NU grads and offers the best pay with a median salary of $94K. The city with the lowest median paycheck frequented by NU alumni is Framingham, Mass., where earnings average $54K. Alumni express interest in New York, N.Y. and Chicago, Ill. as well.

On the other end of the spectrum, those with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology tend to do the worst in terms of salary, making an average around $49K per year.

Competency in Engineering Design translates into above-average pay for former Huskies — they earn 9 percent more than their fellow graduates. Many NU grads have knowledge of Project Management, with approximately one in seven alumni using this program on the clock. Experience with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Office, and Data Analysis is highly valued as well.

Benefits and Perks

Just under half of the former students report receiving paid vacation days, but just one-third of alumni are paid for sick leave. Northeastern University alumni are rewarded with additional benefits, such as life insurance, a casual working environment, tuition reimbursement, and a company-subsidized cell phone.
