The Pitt alumni who make the most are Engineering Project Managers; they report a median pay of around $108K. Project Engineers and Electrical Engineers draw in a fair amount as well — approximately $80K and $70K, respectively. Sitting at the bottom of the pay scale are Financial Analysts who make an average of about $52K.


Rather than relocating after graduation, many Pitt alumni (close to one-half of) end up finding permanent jobs in Pittsburgh. Seattle, Wash. is another hot spot for Pitt grads, where salaries rank at the top of the pay scale (compensation averages out to $112K). On the far end of the pay scale, Pitt alumni often reside in New York, N.Y., which is home to the lowest pay at about $60K. In addition, Pitt grads flock to neighboring Philadelphia, Pa. as well as Washington, DC.

Degree Major

Financial compensation is highest for Pitt grads with a Dentariae Medicinae Doctor (DMD), Dentistry (average earnings climb to $147K per year). Average annual salaries for those with a master's in social work are the lowest of the pack, earning around $42K.


For former Panthers, proficiency in Budget Management warrants a paycheck that is 70 percent more than other alumni salaries. Pitt grads are usually competent in Project Management, and about one in six alumni continue practicing this skill in their career. Demonstrated ability in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel, and Data Analysis rank among leading skills as well.

Benefits and Perks

A lucky minority (about two-fifths of alumni) are fortunate enough to be compensated for vacation while just one in four survey participants get sick time. In an effort to save up for the years ahead, a large number of survey participants contribute to a 401(k). For this school, a large number of alumni are the recipients of health benefits, and a fair number of grads pick up dental plans, too. Graduates of University of Pittsburgh are also recipients of life insurance, a casual working environment, flexible hours, and tuition reimbursement.
