Associate deans of students typically work in an office setting during regular business hours, although attending events outside of these hours may be encouraged or required. They coordinate closely with a variety of staff members and students throughout the campus, communicating in person, over the phone, and via email. Physical requirements for this position are limited, with minimal hazards and travel.
Requirements for these positions vary by institution. Smaller universities may have lower requirements (and likely lower pay), but it is uncommon to find positions meant for entry-level candidates at any university. Typically, educational requirements include a master’s degree or other advanced degree in a related field such as student affairs, public health, or counseling.
