Demand generation directors use a personal computer to input information, conduct research, analyze data, and process marketing requests, and they typically work in an office environment during regular business hours. They may establish parameters for technical and marketing activities and implement effective strategies to increase revenue and optimize the use of company resources. They must also be proficient with office software to respond to inquiries, manage leads, handle marketing programs, and develop strong business relationships with vendors.
Demand generation directors must also understand different content marketing channels and generate sales cycles with client segmentation and regional standards. They regularly analyze sales data and report their progress to the marketing vice president within the organization, and they also work with the operations team to form a cohesive message and streamline marketing and sales processes. Some may handle social media and collaborate with marketing managers to discuss budgets and schedules, and they must be able to work under strict deadlines to deliver projects. A bachelor's degree in a business- or marketing-related field is generally required for this position, and prior experience in the industry is highly beneficial. Industry and leadership certifications are also helpful.
