These directors manage both online and offline demand campaigns and also design, test, automate, and execute new campaigns. They must measure and monitor sales through incoming data, manage a CRM database, and establish a campaign on metrics and closed loop reporting, and they also work with available resources to manage PPC and social media. Demand generation directors should also be able to develop close working relationships with sales teams, with whom they work closely, and must investigate and develop recommendations for purchases/rentals of equipment and resources.
Advanced knowledge of B2B marketing practices in automating and generating content and nurturing new lead sources is essential for this position, and analytical skills and proficiency with e-mail, social media, search engine optimization (SEO), direct mail, and websites are also important. Aspiring demand generation directors should have strong verbal and written communication skills and prior experience with database management, including list management, cleansing, data validation, segmentation, tagging, report creation, and importing and exporting CRM data. A bachelor's degree may also be required for this position.
