Merchandise presentation specialists are often responsible for receiving products from a warehouse and conducting inventory of products, shelves, props, and store fixtures. They may be responsible for implementing and carrying out security procedures to minimize loss, and it's important that they stay up-to-date with the company's offerings and what types of items are popular to maximize sales. Customers and other employees occasionally have questions about various products, so these specialists must maintain broad knowledge of these products to answer questions thoroughly and accurately. They may also be responsible for training employees to present products and advertisements in an aesthetic and attractive manner.
A high school diploma is often a minimum requirement for this position, and many employers also require relevant prior experience and a portfolio. Strong teamwork and communication skills are also important to work well with a variety of employees and possibly interact directly with customers.
