While many legislative sessions have ended for the year, as fall gears up, we will likely see several states enter special sessions where more pay transparency laws may be passed. In August, we did not see any traction in state legislatures on any pending pay transparency legislation.
Illinois
On August 11, 2023, Governor J.B. Pritzker signed Illinois’s pay transparency bill into law. Beginning January 1, 2025, employers with 15 or more employees and at least one in Illinois will have to start including salary ranges in their job postings if:
- The job will be physically performed, at least in part, in Illinois; or
- The job will be performed outside Illinois, but the employee will report to a supervisor, office, or other worksite in Illinois
Need more information on the specific requirements? We broke it down for you here.
In case you missed it:
- On August 11, 2023, New Zealand proposed a new law that, if passed, would require around 900 companies with more than 250 employees to report their gender pay gaps. The New Zealand government will consult the public on the proposed legislation. New Zealand will have parliamentary elections in October, so we will track whether this gender pay gap reporting will gain traction with a new government.
