In February, we celebrated Valentine’s Day, Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring, and two more states proposed pay transparency laws.
Minnesota
On February 12, 2024, the Minnesota State House introduced HF 3578. If passed, employers with 30 or more employees will be required to include the minimum and maximum hourly/salary range and a general description of benefits in job postings. On February 15, 2024, the Minnesota State Senate proposed SF 3725, which mirrors the Minnesota State House bill.
New Jersey
At the very end of January, New Jersey proposed S2310. If passed, employers with 10 or more employees will be required to include an hourly/salary range and a list of benefits and other compensation in all job postings (including for promotions and transfers). This bill would also impose penalties for employers who fail to comply.
EU Pay Transparency Directive
The update is that there is no update. We are still waiting for the first EU Member State to transpose the EU Pay Transparency Directive into law. As a reminder, EU Member States have until June 2026 to comply.
We are still keeping an eye on the following proposed pay transparency laws in 2024:
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Virginia
- Washington, D.C.
- Wisconsin
Payscale will be closely following the progress of these bills.
